Our team kicked off our first full day in Rwanda with breakfast at the Kigali hotel before loading up and heading to our accommodations in Butare. Before leaving Kigali, part of the team joined our Bridges to Prosperity (B2P) Corporate Site Liaison for a trip to the grocery store to pick up snacks and grab lunch for the journey. Meanwhile, the rest of the team spent time with our B2P East Africa Corporate Manager, learning more about the B2P program and the exciting improvements the organization is implementing.
After lunch, the team hit the road in two trucks and one SUV for the 3.5-hour drive south to Butare. The winding roads were nicely paved, making for a smooth journey. About two-thirds of the way there, we stopped for a bathroom and snack break before continuing on.
Once we arrived at our accommodations, we unloaded our baggage and began separating tools and PPE from our personal items. That evening, the Bridges to Prosperity cook treated us to a delicious dinner of rice, spinach, potatoes, and goat—our first meal in Butare.
After dinner, we met with our B2P Corporate Build Manager to review the plan for tomorrow’s early start and spent time further organizing the tools to send off to the site.
