Over Easter Weekend, the Traylor Construction Group team took a well-deserved break from the build site to explore the culture, beauty, and spirit of Rwanda. It was a meaningful few days of connection—with nature, history, and local art—that left us refreshed and inspired.
Our first stop was Akagera National Park, where we kicked off the weekend with a scenic safari. The team spotted a wide range of wildlife, from roaming mammals to colorful birds. One of the highlights was helping Abby work through her birdwatching checklist—she was determined to see them all! The vast landscapes and quiet beauty of Akagera gave us a whole new appreciation for Rwanda’s natural wonders.
Back in Kigali, we visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn more about the country’s tragic past and the incredible resilience and progress Rwanda has made since 1994. The experience was powerful and humbling—a reminder of the strength that comes from unity and healing.
Some of our team also explored the vibrant local art scene at the Niyo Art Center, which showcases the work of ten local artists. Several are brothers who have completed art residencies in the U.S., and their work reflects both tradition and modern perspectives. A special moment came at the Hotel des Mille Collines, where we spotted artwork by Niyonsenga Pacifique, the founder of the Niyo Art Center, on display—a full-circle connection that made the visit even more special.
Throughout the weekend, we were struck by how clean, organized, and beautifully maintained Rwanda is. Roads are smoothly paved, sidewalks are everywhere, and the landscaping—especially in Kigali—is a point of national pride.
Our Easter Weekend adventures gave us a deeper understanding of Rwanda and its people. We returned to site reenergized, grateful for the experience, and ready to continue building—not just bridges, but lasting bonds.
